I agree that's part of it, but I don't think it's the main problem. In my view, pseudoscience itself is not what got us here.
Unbounded connectivity and the political exploitation of seemingly everything, including pseudoscience, seems much more important.
For instance, pseudoscience has often been supported by individuals with money, but now big money political actors often support it as a tool to political ends, which seems to me to be a dramatic change and central to the problem.
