dnlkrgr on Nostr: #[0]
quoting nevent1q…adyhTried to explain Nostr to the outside world. This is my thread. Thx for your feedback. Please be gentle w/ me.
For 3 days I'm a user of #nostr.
A great experience and much more than just a social network trying to become the next Twitter.
Many do not know what Nostr is.
I try to explain. 👇
Nostr is a decentralized protocol that allows people to exchange messages. Developers can build their apps on that protocol. They can build the next Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. But there's more. You can send money via Nostr, so the decentral Paypal may be coming up there.
A very important advantage of Nostr is the ownership of identity. You don't have to create an account using your email or phone number. You just create a public key, which is like your name, and a private key which is your password. That's it. No further information is needed.
With that account, you can switch from app to app on the Nostr network. You don't like the Twitter style anymore? No problem, just install another app, that is e.g. Facebook. Just identify w/ your pair of keys and that's it. You'll find your profile and followers again.
My account is here.

I run Nostr on two apps, @iristoapp, and @snort.social
At the moment it's all about social media. But this is just the first use case. Any kind of service will run on Nostr. Like ToDo lists, calendar syncs, payment apps, etc. All of that is encrypted, decentralized, and w/ the identity you created.
For me, the most important thing about Nostr is its censorship resistance. No government, no BigTech, or any other entity can cancel you or delete your posts. There is not even a central owner who could decide that.
That's all great. What's the downside?
However, there is only one issue: Bitcoin. It's a totally monothematic network. Almost like a religious shrine. It's hard to find even posts on other topics. But that will surely change.
Not sure if Nostr will be the next big thing. But the way technology changes is fascinating to me. People get back their identities and can decide for themselves what is displayed to them. No algorithm. No commercials. There will be many Nostrs, but this is the way to go. 🚀
Sumup. You learned that Nostr:
👉🏻is a decentralized protocol
👉🏻is no social media network
👉🏻provides ownership of identity and
👉🏻uses just a key pair to identify the user
👉🏻has many apps to use it
👉🏻is completely censorship free
👉🏻is the holy shrine for Bitcoiners at the moment
