I hope this revelation of potential attacks against the lightning network will motivate people to at least give a second look (or first look !) at Liquid.
It's open source and we could create many different federations, not just the current one. Liquid is just a sidechain and doesn't impact the bitcoin mainnet. It's basically just a bitcoin multisig with internal rules for the sidechain.
Maybe we could even have the chaumian e-cash (cashu, etc) on top of Liquid.
If I understand correctly what Antoine Riard (the lightning developper who discovered those potential attacks) is suggesting as fixes for those attacks, they would seem to involve consensus changes on the mainnet or at least to make system requirements for full bitcoin core nodes much more expensive. I doubt that I'd be excited about either option. And if Lightning messed up, I'd prefer to have them far away from the mainnet source code...
