There's a long list of philosophers who have been having this discussion for quite some time.
Modern economic theory (like Austrian) is based on much of what the classical philosophers wrote.
First and foremost, whether one respect your rights does not determine whether a right exists or doesn't exist. Your rights can be, will be, and are currently being violated by those in power.
But inalienable means that a right cannot be rescinded, surrendered, alienated, or given away.
If you have a natural right, not only can someone NOT take it from you but you cannot GIVE it up. It is a part of you and your existence.
