On this day, 20 years ago, November 9, 2004, Firefox 1.0 was released. It was supposed to be the champion of a free and open web, a browser with a mission. But somewhere along the way, it lost its way, making compromises that sidelined user freedom and it became "the the little browser that couldn't."
