Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the UK. There has been a settlement on this spot for over 1000 years but the village as it is now was only really existed since the construction of the harbour in 1811. An artificial reef created by the blasting of the harbour channel means that waves here can be huge. As both a holiday destination and a working port, relaxation and danger coexist here in a quiet dissonance.
