I remember following fitness bros on Twitter. They were always trying to optimize everything. I tried to follow suit. Making sure of the ratio of proteins, carbs, fats, etc. 8 hours of sleep. Working out 5 times a week with the correct splits between push/pull/uppers/lowers, etc. spending money on all sorts of supplements.

Then I had kids.

I still manage to stay in good shape. My diet is 90% clean but I’m not religious about getting the proper amount of macros every day. If I get 7 hours of sleep I’m happy. Last night I got 6.5hrs and woke up at 4am after my new born puked and my 2 yo had a nightmare episode (simultaneously). I cleaned the dishes and packed lunches for myself and the kids and then got a solid workout in. I workout when I can. Usually 30 minute sessions, 3-4 times a week. I focus on going really hard when I get opportunity. I do more full body workouts so that I make sure I target the entire body and use more compound movements.

TL;DR you don’t need to optimize every part of your health routine. Dad strength is real. Exercise when you can. Just eat real food and stay away from processed foods. Don’t be a bitch about not getting 8 hours of sleep. Follow these steps and you’ll remain in better shape than 90% of the population.
