Cooked a pot roast yesterday and had a delicious dinner. Then there is a big hot cast iron pan with a lot of food inside to cool off. Well, it is below freezing outside and my standard approach is to set it on the deck for a couple of hours. It won't freeze, but most of the heat will be gone.
I got to wondering about energy efficiency. Here's something that had soaked up a lot of heat from the oven, which I then dissipated into the great outdoors. Meanwhile there's an efficient heat pump inside that would have extracted all of the extra heat and pumped it into the house. The fridge. Yes, it would use a bit more electricity (our fridge uses $0.19/day) but I also wouldn't accidentally leave a pot roast outside all night.
