the magnus archives is interesting because the creator knows what tropes to employ to effectively convey horror but doesn't understand the ways that the fears he is working with play on ideas he finds morally repugnant (fear of the other, anti-materialism, fear of chaos/lack of order) so whenever that comes too close to the surface he does a little jig and says that whites are bad and also all the characters are gay
