The United Arab Emirates welcomes the start of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of prisoners, hostages, and detainees, and calls for the complete implementation of the agreement, emphasizing that we have a unique opportunity to move forward without looking back after 15 months of destruction, devastation, and dehumanization. The UAE statement, delivered by Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the permanent representative of the UAE to the United Nations, during the open debate at the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, said: "After 15 months of destruction and devastation, we come to this council with deep hope, and we hope that this period of violence will come to an end once and for all." The statement considered the ceasefire as a crucial first step on the long road to peace and recovery in the region, a step that puts an end to the cycle of violence once and for all. The statement highlighted three key points to pave the way for a more peaceful future, the first being the need for the complete implementation of the ceasefire agreement. The statement said: "The UAE welcomes the ceasefire, the release of prisoners, hostages, and detainees, and commends Egypt, Qatar, and the United States for their continued commitment to finding a diplomatic solution, a reminder that solutions are not forged in the fire of war, but at the negotiating table." The statement emphasized the need to increase humanitarian aid and deliver it immediately, welcoming the first delivery of humanitarian aid after the ceasefire and urging the delivery of aid throughout Gaza at a rapid pace. The statement added: "The UAE has been a steadfast supporter of humanitarian efforts in Gaza over the past 15 months, and we are working closely with UN partners to expand the scope of aid to reach all those in need." The statement considered facilitating the entry of commercial goods into Gaza as crucial for supporting livelihoods and rebuilding stability, emphasizing that the entry and distribution of aid must be safe and that any attempts to obstruct its entry or attacks on humanitarian workers are unacceptable. The statement also highlighted the importance of putting in place the foundations for addressing immediate needs, accelerating our efforts towards a two-state solution, establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, and living free from the illegal occupation. The statement said: "After 471 days, it has never been clear that this is the only path to permanent peace between Palestine and Israel, the current situation, and still is, not sustainable, today, we have a rare opportunity to move forward and not back; our next steps can determine whether we will return to the conditions that led to the violence of October 7 and the death, destruction, and humiliation that followed, or whether they can enable us to reconfigure the trajectory of the conflict in the region towards a just and lasting peace."
