I got my first computer in 1998. It was a used laptop with Windows 95 on it. I was fascinated with encryption, and one of the first things I discovered was the Cypherpunks mailing list. There I learned that all the cool kids were using Linux. I wanted to be cool too, so I tried to set up my computer to dual boot Windows and Linux. I got Linux installed but in the process I messed up Windows and couldn't figure out how to reinstall it in dual boot mode. So it was about six months of Windows and then it's been Linux ever since.
