A thought about #Commodore - a lot of people argue that Commodore's descision to sell PC comaptibles in 1984 was as stupid a descision as to drill a hole into the bottom of your floating ship. But is that really true?
Just a year ago the ill-fated B and P series of 8bit machines, intended to replace the aging CBM and PET "professional" series, were discontinued after being a total flop. This left Commodore without a professional product line aimed at business users.
Meanwhile, PC compatibles gained ground from large enterprises to small businesses.
Mind you, there was no Amiga at that time: that machine was still just a prototype named "Lorraine" being develooped by HiToro - who had just signed an agreement with Atari to sell to them the final design of their machine.
So from a mananagement point of view, the descision made sense: there was only minimum risk, as no R&D had to be done.
