Oh man, yea, it's a fun game; been around since the old dialup BBS games, though the modern incarnation of it is called TradeWars Game Server. There are occasionally still copies of TradeWars2002 on some of the hobbyist telnet/ssh enabled BBS's though (along with other classics such as Barren Realms Elite, another of my favorites). Basically the same game, just different method of serving it up. Last I knew the most common way to play was by using dedicated clients which allow for macros and scripting, on servers with unlimited or far more turns than ever existed per day than in the dialup days, making for an interestingly different game experience (though, you can of course still opt for more turn-limited games).

If you're looking for those BBS's to see what's still around and hosted, I'd check out https://synchro.net/sbbslist.html (as well as listings on DOVENet itself, as there are some other server packages still out there such as WWIV, though less actively developed than Synchronet).

I used to run one myself but it's been awhile. Some have been around continuously active for decades at this point.
