Back in the day, ARCs were physical; the mother of a friend of mine was part of the advance reads cohort for a publisher, and she would get a catalog to select which upcoming book to read, and those would come as bounded printer unformatted copies.
But we are in the digital age, and now you can get those ARCs as ebooks, ready to open and read on your device of choice. This made the entire thing much more accessible to the smaller publishers as well as people #SelfPublishing . 3/n
