What you're referring to as ActivityPub, is in fact, Mastodon/ActivityPub, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Mastodon plus ActivityPub. ActivityPub is not a social networking system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning system made useful by the Mastodon server, ActivityStreams extensions, and client web app comprising a full social media app.
