My first reaction: *Because* fossil fuel profits have been politicized, it's impossible to convince a huge fraction of the global population of the gravity of the situation.
And *because* our society runs on the fuel of capitalism, it's impossible to get a critical mass of journalists to buck the system by writing and publishing the information that needs to be shared. It's human nature to protect our immediate livelihoods. Only the courageous outliers will buck the system. Courageous outliers will never represent a critical mass.
So what am I saying? That our situation is hopeless? Yeah. Pretty much. Does that mean I've lost my ever-present optimism? Not exactly.
My attitude: Keep doing everything we can to mitigate the inevitable harm. Hope for the best. Things will get really bad. Will human life survive on Planet Earth? Prolly? But a whole lot of people are going to die painful deaths. Those who survive will live painful lives.
