She has a more industrial approach to gardening. It works for them - they are retired and have a much bigger garden as well as various mechanical aids - but they're still far from subsisting.

This year, they've taken to looking over the fence with pity at our garden and saying things like, "so you're not doing the garden this year?" or "It's nice to have a bit of nature" (emphasis on the *bit*).
