Well that was embarrassing--failing a programming 101 question by looking at this scale I created in #LibreOffice Draw and seeing 18 posts not 19, with a 6 inch span and 3 pins per inch. Imperial scales don't normally have those fractions and a metric substitute wasn't handy so I drew and printed a paper pattern.
