As for search, I've been using DuckDuckGo for years and I find almost everything that I need with it.

Regarding the images, I'm not blocking GoogleBot-Image and GoogleBot, but via robots.txt I do tell GoogleBot-Extended and GoogleBot-Other to not access my site.
