I finally went ahead and installed NixOS on a machine. Surprisingly, it mostly just works! I was expecting a bunch of troubleshooting, extensive wiki reading etc. Nix has the reputation of a steep learning curve.

But really, just editing the OS config file a few times and kicking off rebuilds was all that was needed. Got Steam with NVIDIA drivers running on my laptop within an hour or so. Smooth sailing so far.
