I dont know much about the situation admittedly. But here's what I do know: she had a DUI a couple of years ago (I should mention she had been a child star so it's not unusual for her to have turned to alcohol to cope with the traumas of that) and ever since then the Korean public made sure she could never act again, and not only that but made sure she could never work a normal job either. When she would go out with "friends" they would take candid pics of her and post them to reveal her whereabouts and shame her.
This happens in Korea all the time. A kpop singer called Sulli committed suicide back in 2019 after ungodly amounts of harassment and her only crime was taking feminist stances. They mourned her, forgot and then moved on to the next target having learned nothing like they will inevitably do again. It does happen to men cause one of the actors from Parasite killed himself after some scandal but just like everywhere women have it worse.
