ah, interesting, that makes sense, the first stuff that fell out of solution did resemble gypsum (plaster, for those who don't know, calcium sulphate)

so, what you are saying basically amounts to - probably should stop it soon and put it into a strainer and let the brownish residuals drip out and the rest dry

i will wait until all the top surface is more or less dry and the residual supernatant liquid is about half way from the bottom of the dish

i do want a little of those other things, most notably magnesium salts and tiny amounts of things like bromides and iodides (and yes fluorides)

i'm not sure about magnesium sulfate being hard to crystallise, it forms little hexagonal rods very readily in my experience
