When Governments crow about "bonfires of red tape" the subliminal message to corporations, regulators & professionals is "we will stop enforcing the rules". So, whether the statutes/regulations actually get repealed, or not, those with duties of care for safety of fellow citizens just start flouting the law. What ensues is a period of Wild West anarchy, & that is what we have witnessed with Grenfell, Water corporates, data protection, & healthcare. It is citizens that get burned, not "red tape".
