You Will (Not) Escape ☸️ (nprofile…ake6) you're looking at this the wrong way. Why would they ever need the keys to decrypt anything when they can just put the logic into the Signal apps on the phone which holds the decrypted messages?

Once Signal is running all the data is there to be read. The cached messages on the devices are in a regular sqlite database. They're not stored in the same encrypted state as they are when sent over the network. It's just a stupid sqlite database that is encrypted with one static key that exists forever until you reinstall the app and start over.

But again, if the backdoor is in the code of the app itself it can read everything and send copies of messages to anywhere it wants. You can't control that at the device level on an iPhone and not normally on an Android.
