AGI is certainly plausible in the future, even if it has nothing to do with LLMs. And we've repeatedly had breakthrough advances in tech that have taken expectations from "sometime in the next few decades" to "now".
I don't expect that AGI is going to appear next week, but if it does it won't be entirely surprising.
