We may not work in fields, as much, but we still work in filthy factory's and warehouses, buildings that contain work place toxins. However, removing your cover is more about exposing your face, or humbling yourself. Like why we shake hands, as a greeting. Originally, it was to present your weapon hand was empty. Or why we wave from a distance. Presenting 5 digits, instead of six (some superstitious about the annunaki, who were monsters who ate people).
I don't agree that we should throw away traditions. We should revisit them, keep the ones that continue to benefit us, and archive but still learn the ones that don't. Never throw away. That'd be removing bricks from the house you live in
