Transit has cut its functionality for non-paid users, but it's not actually able to provide accurate departure times. I have been dealing with an ever-receding bus all morning. I finally left when it was supposed to be to the stop in 8 minutes, then it told me I'd missed the bus and there wasn't another for another 27 minutes, so I just gave up.
Even if I had a Google account and would pay, why would I pay to have more routes for Transit to mislead me about.
Meanwhile, the bus schedules are constantly changing and inscrutable, so it's practically impossible to plan a non-trivial trip without Transit. PRT's bus tracking page lists bus stops that have been discontinued, so you have to already know which stop you need to go to.
If #Pittsburgh were trying to sabotage its bus system, I'm not sure what it would do differently.
