Something I hoped for in nostr was for it to be an alternative to the current social media paradigm. So far, I don't see it. And to be clear, I'm not saying that nostr doesn't achieve its goal of being decentralized or censorship resistant. I love nostr for that. But I hoped and still do hope that we would build a new social media paradigm that isn't built on the concepts of the old paradigm. Concepts like having notifications, having a refresh button, having algorithms that feed you new content. For me those are all core to the old paradigm of trying to keep you online for as long as possible. Keep you engaged and addicted.

The reason the legacy social media do this is to maximize time on ads and therefore revenue. But through countless research papers and anectdotes throughout all our lives, we know the terrible consequences of this paradigm.

I want nostr to be an opportunity to try a new paradigm. One where we are trying to minizime time on these apps by rethinking features like notifications, number of likes, endless scrolling, etc. I don't see any of this so far on nostr and in fact I see a lot of nostr devs mimicking these dark design patterns to get more users.

Ultimately, I think nostr can be used for both paradigms but I just don't have any interest in the old one. #nostr
