Why does the UK media still refer to the likes of npub1r95xa2mr2m5y5n9h5u205pre6z8m6jhxnrp9ft47v3wuhcsde87se9teus (npub1r95…teus) as discount retailers? I don’t it’s about price anymore, but used as a derogatory term.
I think it’s the fact that they carry brands that while common in Europe are not recognisable in the Uk, so the whole “Johnny Foreigner” mentality kicks in with the assumption it’s inferior.
I tend to do all my shopping at Lidl as it’s the nearest (I use an npub198javmj9x5a59f2eah0dryg6ej9x9vhyrks2q4xelrtg7algpl8ssmjjcv (npub198j…jjcv)) whereas my wife does the bigger supermarkets (she has a car). So maybe I’m biased?
