Sumac is one of my favorite plants to see in autumn, thanks to its rich red fruit that pops out of the background, especially as the leaves on other plants and trees disappear. I also admire the clean Y and W shapes that its branches make. This is not the “poison sumac” that causes rashes—that plant has white flowers and berries.
