I've never interviewed with larger tech companies, but I've heard that corporate Linux is yikes (FANG companies as well). My guess is they are really afraid of making "bad" hires? The way to fix this is usually to recruit folks that are mid-level or entry-level, train them up, and hire internally for leads and seniors. But to be honest, a lot of tech companies have a retention problem with top talent. They tend to leave when they find better pay or better culture.
