In my (admittedly somewhat dated) experience the most interesting use cases for VR headsets are 3D maps of mountains/complex terrain (e.g. for planning hikes), or complex 3D models (e.g. for archtiectural plans).
Back in the day, the only worthwhile app on the original Oculus Rift was Google Earth, for this reason - lots of useful 3D content. Oddly, the Maps app on the Apple headset is just a 2D iPad app in a window, not using the 3D properties of the device at all...
