Everybody should practice with numbers/addition/subtraction and basic math because those concepts appear everywhere.

What I'm saying is that if someone in an unrelated field practices advanced calculus, he is unlikely to get any benefit out of it whatsoever. The skills learned for that subject likely do not translate almost at all anywhere else.

I think there's a myth that focusing on advanced academic material will improve your thinking in unrelated topics and I don't think that's the case anymore (I used to).
