I wasn’t always a junkie. I used to follow the news more recreationally, more responsibly. I consumed it in moderation and didn’t internalize it so much. I spent more time on the box scores and comics than political horse races and foreign affairs. I read the book reviews and the arts section. I wasn’t home enough to watch television, and the internet was still just a few isolated bulletin boards where you could chat with people for outlandish fees.
