I grew up on Spring Water, in North Ga. I was well into my 20's.
The Spring was a 6 foot deep, 6 feet wide culvert piece, put into the ground. Water from a small spring ran into the bottom and filled it up.
Once a year we would go down and dip it out with 5 gallon buckets - clear out the mud, the frogs, and the salamanders. Down to "clean" bedrock, and check the pump. Which pumped up the hill, straight out the faucets.
