They should call themselves "non-committal."
I have a close relative who is a non-denominational pastor, he gave up a great career as a cleric in a huge denomination, one of the biggest and fastest growing in the world, where he could have positively influenced thousands of people, because he had friends in multiple traditions and he was terrified of disappointing and alienating any of them.
He instead spent his career a big fish in a tiny pond. Always made a modest living, but never grew in his curiosity, or his knowledge, or his practice. It wasn't the modesty of a saint, it was the modesty of cowardice and stubbornness.
That's what non-denominationalism is about. Not just in Christianity, that's agnosticism in general, or any unwillingness to participate in a tradition.
