#TOR #privacy #orbot

1. Download and install Orbot from the the [F-Droid repository]
2. Open Orbot and tap the **power button** in the center of the screen to connect to the Tor network. You will see a message saying "Orbot is starting..." and then "Connected to the Tor network!" when it is ready.
3. To use Orbot as a VPN for all your apps, tap the **VPN** button on the main screen and select the apps you want to route through Tor. You can also enable **Transparent Proxying** in the settings to force all apps to use Tor, but this requires root access on your device.
4. To set up your own entrance and exit nodes, tap the **settings** button on the main screen and then tap **Entrance Nodes** or **Exit Nodes**. You can enter the two-letter country code or the fingerprint of the nodes you want to use, separated by commas. For example, if you want to use nodes from France, Germany, or Spain, you can enter `{fr},{de},{es}`. You can also use the **Change exit** option on the main screen to select a specific country for your exit node after connecting to Tor.
5. To enforce your node selection, you can enable **Strict Nodes** in the settings. This will make Orbot use only the nodes you specified and avoid any other nodes. However, this may reduce your anonymity and performance, as you will have fewer options to choose from.
6. Some other handy tips for using Orbot are:
- You can use bridges to bypass censorship or blocking of Tor by some ISPs or governments. Bridges are unlisted entry nodes that can help you connect to Tor. To enable bridges, go to settings and tap **Use Bridges**, then select a type of bridge or enter a custom one.
- You can view your current circuit of nodes by tapping the **info** button on the main screen. You can also refresh your circuit by tapping the **refresh** button or request a new identity by tapping the **broom** button.
- You can access hidden services or .onion sites using Orbot. You will need a browser that supports proxy settings, such as [Orfox](^5^) or [Lightning]. You will also need to enable **HTTP Proxy** in Orbot's settings and enter `localhost:8118` as the proxy host and port in your browser's settings.
- You can also share your internet connection through Tor with other devices using **Tor Tethering**. This requires root access on your device and a USB cable or a Wi-Fi hotspot. To enable Tor Tethering, go to settings and tap **Tor Tethering**, then follow the instructions.
