I agree with your analysis. Peck's point was that saying "I have no power, I must depend upon a higher power" has definite fascistic tones. I have not been terribly impressed by local AA or Al-Anon groups, just another social club in which people discuss their bad deeds and expect pats on the back. The last Al-Anon meeting I went to included a woman from Quebec who gave money to her drug dealer son who then used it to buy drugs and sell them to schoolchildren. The women in the room all told her what a good mother she was. I could have screamed!!!!!
(There was a film on our local PBS station today and I could only stand a little bit of watching French Canadian-Americans screeching about their way of life which included insulting indigenous people. There used to be a lot of stereotypes about French Canadians and I hate when people live up to stereotypes. Trudeau seems to enjoy it.)
