The use case here is stuffing something like an old PCI SoundBlaster into a #Linux box and seeing what I can get working using its 15-pin gameport (don't care about sound at all). Lots of searches for vintage PC game controllers wind up with discovering support for it in the Linux joystick drivers: https://docs.kernel.org/input/joydev/index.html
And I'd be VERY interested in discovering if that meant I could use, say, a Gravis Xterminator gamepad - which is gameport- and digital-only - on modern hardware under Linux.
