I’ve seen equal parts of “Harris lost because of X” and “If you think Harris lost because of X, you’re an idiot” on Mastodon the past few days; heck, I’ve posted several myself. But I think it bears saying again there is not ONE reason Harris lost; there are MANY.
If you’re trying to nail this loss down to a single cause of failure, you’ll inevitably become ignorant about the wide variety of potential voters out there, each of whom wants something *slightly* different from their candidates, have different levels of awareness of what’s going on, were exposed to different news media, and have different sets of motivators and demotivators that drove their decision.
People are messy. There is no single explanation. It’s always a composite of factors, some of which are more influential than others. One interpretation of the post mortem does not necessarily invalidate another one.
