⚾️ Good summary of the #Tigers season this year. #MLB

The Detroit Tigers have been the most impressive story in baseball since the start of July.

On July 4th, over halfway through the 162 game season, the Tigers were 39-48, 9 games below .500 and 16 games out of a playoff spot.

At the end of July, during the trade deadline, many writers and insiders had them tabbed as sellers.

Surprisingly, they didn’t sell. At least, not fully. They traded away veteran rentals Jack Flaherty, Carson Kelly, Andrew Chafin, and Mark Canha. They got back prospects playing in the minor leagues in all of those deals.

BUT: They held on to the most valued piece rumored to be traded at the deadline, Ace Pitcher Tarik Skubal.

Skubal is a free agent at the end of the season, so the Tigers holding onto him and not getting a very large prospect/player haul for him had people scratching their heads.

Skubal was, and still is, having a fantastic season. In fact, he’s likely to win the Cy Young Award. However, the rest of the team just wasn’t performing.

On August 10th, following a loss to the San Francisco Giants, they were 55-63, eight games below .500 and 13.5 games out of a playoff spot.

To put it simply, they had gained very little ground over the month, with the end of the season, and a bet on themselves gone incredibly poorly in keeping Tarik Skubal, now only 44 games away.

Since that date, they’ve gone 28-11, hoisting their record to 83-74. With just five games left to play in MLB’s regular season, they sit in a playoff spot, something very few people saw possible three months ago.
