All that the viewer sees is the flickering of moonlight on the surface of the water. The remaining details are immersed in the darkness of the night. The landscape turned out to be so realistic that Kuindzhi was suspected of using special lamps that he allegedly placed behind the canvas, and even of making a deal with the devil!
