There is a lot, but what comes to mind is, especially in the context of MCs' lives & plot is reducing the power of corporations.
An international corp basically has the same rights as a country. It has to follow the laws of the country where it's at when dealing with the outside world/in terms of employee rights, etc., but it's free to deal with internal & external threats however it sees fit.
