But if you are married (e.g. in Cyprus) the Rabbinate will assume control and require divorce to follow halachic law, under which women cannot divorce their husbands without their husbands' consent. In terms of religion-and-state relations, Israel is not at all like any other developed country, and more like Iran, India, and other countries with a religious family law.
