I lived through the integration period in the US South, and saw white Southerners perfectly willing to shred the common good, to tear things up, if we were expected to share with Blacks. We targeted swimming pools, which were shut down, and public schools, which got undermined as we moved our children to segregated church academies. We abandoned inner cities and bult all-white suburbs, causing urban decay.
