Joan Snyder. My Life, 1996.
It seems to me that the stern of our civilization is already tilting up in the air and the whole thing sinking irretrievably before our eyes. You naturally reflect back and wonder where we went wrong, when the tipping point came, and maybe also when was our zenith. This artist is still alive, one of the greats. There's Twombly, Maltman, Bleckner, de Kooning in there, a whole age, but she's a woman and a lesbian. We could have listened more, looked harder.
