I was running redmi note 9s, was pretty good with ubuntu touch, but was also thanks to a trick to use basically android on the downest layers (kernel + firmware + android low-level libraries) and then instead of the android jvm it has a compatibility layer (libhibris mostly) and then, on upper layers, the ubuntu touch userspace. Basically you cant update kernel, firmwares, and you are very limited to the packages you can use cause kernel and libc compatibility. Its all a sort of emulation in the end, with a lot limitations.
Now I'm on pixel 6a grapheneos as daily driver and is pretty good, but its android.
I hope we will have something good with native linux unix-like operating system but I think it will take time... and I start to think that eventually we would never have this sort of of OS: the tendency is exact the opposite, its desktop linux that is becoming everyday more similar to android, with compartimentalization, immutable distros, big chunks of the os managed by monolithic piece of softwares (sigh)...
