A 1st-2nd Century AD; Roman Vase with Phallic Symbols; found from Camulodunum (Roman Colchester), England.
Phallic symbols are found on a wide range of Roman objects, from amulets to frescoes to mosaics to lamps. While for us erect phallus always evokes associations with sex, but in ancient Rome the range of its meanings was much broader. Phallus symbols intended to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
