I know I was told the same thing when I was going to college, that it did not make financial sense. That was 20 years ago and it's only worse now. I can't imagine paying $25-50k/yr in the hopes of getting a higher ceiling in 20-30 years. Even $30k/yr ($15/hr) is better than going in debt during the best time of your life to settle down and start your career.
