Oooh, now, HERE is a css tweak I've wanted mastodon web to have FOREVER:

article:has(button.star-icon.active) { background-color: #ffebaf; }

basically, if it's favourited, then make the entire post have a yellow background - so it's much easier to scroll through previously read posts and skip those you've already interacted with.
